From City of Reading
Mayor Eddie Morán and State Representative Manny Guzman are celebrating the overwhelming success of the fourth annual back-to-school giveaway, which brought together community partners, volunteers, and local families in the heart of downtown Reading.
Nearly 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students, and more than 50 free haircuts and hairstyling services were provided by a team of generous local barbers and stylists — ensuring kids could step into the new school year feeling confident and prepared.
“This event is proof of what we can accomplish when we come together for our children,” said Mayor Morán. “Seeing the smiles on the students’ faces, knowing they’re walking into the school year with the tools they need to succeed — that’s what it’s all about. My thanks go to every partner, sponsor, and volunteer who made this possible. You’ve made a real difference.”
Rep. Guzman echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, emphasizing the event’s impact and spirit of unity. “Year after year, this giveaway grows stronger and reaches more families. This is about creating a community of support where every child knows they are valued. I’m grateful to everyone who joined us to make this a success,” said Guzman.
This year’s event was made possible thanks to the generous support and participation of the following sponsors and partners: First Energy, Reading Area Community College, Alvernia University, Reading School District, Tec Centro, Berks County Intermediate Unit, AmeriHealth Caritas, Berks Community Health Center, Goodwill, Reading City Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Finanta, Visions Federal Credit Union, Golden Homecare, Miracle Maker Homecare, United Healthcare, Pennsylvania Department of Health, Reading Area Water Authority, Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank, Life Impact, Shuman Development Group, Domino’s Pizza, Reading Parking Authority, a dozen local barbers and hairstylists, East Penn Manufacturing, Pace-O-Matic, UGI, JM Diamond Realty, Berks Technical Institute, Peace and Harmony House, Customers Bank, and Reading Fire & EMS.
