McCarthy Engineering Associates, Inc. is proud to announce the addition of Mehdi Mehrabi, Ph.D, P.E., to its accomplished team of engineering professionals. With more than 21 years of experience in the mechanical engineering industry, Dr. Mehrabi joins the firm as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, bringing a deep knowledge of complex HVAC and energy systems and a commitment to mentorship and innovation. He is also a Licensed Professional HVAC Engineer (PE) in 20 U.S. states, further demonstrating the breadth of his qualifications and professional reach.
Dr. Mehrabi holds a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Emphasis) from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, as well as a Master of Science in Energy Systems Engineering from the Science and Research Branch of Azad University in Tehran, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Iran University of Science and Technology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mehrabi has designed HVAC/mechanical systems for a wide variety of facilities, including commercial, educational, residential, healthcare, pharmaceutical, data center, and industrial projects. His responsibilities at McCarthy Engineering include:
- Performing HVAC design for diverse building types.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative system designs.
- Providing technical guidance, peer review, and mentorship to fellow engineers.
His technical expertise spans air systems, hydronic systems, central plants, VRF systems, DOAS, and energy recovery systems, and he is proficient in a wide array of tools and codes, including Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and standards such as ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, IECC, and IFGC.
Prior to joining McCarthy Engineering in May 2025, Dr. Mehrabi earned recognition for both his technical insight and team leadership. He was awarded the Teammate Player Award at Windward Engineers and Consultants in February 2025 and received distinction for the Best Paper Published in the 2019 volume of the ASHRAE Research Journal, highlighting his contributions to the advancement of mechanical engineering knowledge.
