Army Warrant Officer Hayden Schappell, 20, son of Jeremy and Melissa Schappell of Charles Town, W.Va., formerly of Sinking Spring, graduated from Army Flight School, Fort Novosel, Ala.
Schappell is an AH-64 Apache Pilot and will be assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y.. He is a grandson of Earl and Linda Hemerly of Shartlesville and Dennis and Barbara Schappell of Windsor Castle.
Schappell is a graduate of Warrant Officer Candidate School and Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School. He began Initial Entry Rotary Wing training in August 2022. At the completion of basic flight training, the students are given the opportunity to select the aircraft they would like to fly. Schappell selected the AH-64E Apache and began advanced flight training in March.
He was officially awarded the Army Aviator Badge on Oct. 5.
