Mothers of teens killed in Schuylkill County look for answers

The mothers of two Schuylkill County teenagers found dead said they want answers.

Kate Mock and Tanya Evans spoke to the media Thursday, more than a week after the deaths of their sons, Hunter Mock, 18, and Angelito Xavier Caraballo, 16, both of New Philadelphia.

Their bodies were found Oct. 10 in a wooded area off Ferndale Road about 1 mile east of Route 209 down an embankment in an area known as “The Sanchez,” an old mining area filled with water. The deaths have been ruled as homicides.

Evans said a neighbor told her about finding the teenagers, and then she told Mock. Mock said she went to the scene but was told she could not see her son.

“I needed to see him because it wasn’t real,” she said.

Both mothers said they never met the two men, who, court documents suggest, were hanging out with the teenagers on the night they went missing.

The women said they want law enforcement to finish their investigation, and the public to stay away from the scene.

Schuylkill County District Attorney Michael A. O’Pake said Thursday that the investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed yet.

Meanwhile, both mothers are left wondering why.

“I think that all of us need to remember that we can’t do everything by ourselves, and it’s smart to ask for help,” Mock said. “It’s OK not to know the answer. If you’re trying to figure out, though, you need to look at other people that could.”
