Olivet Boys & Girls Club and Alvernia University team up for wrestling try-it program

The Alvernia University women’s wrestling team is giving kids a chance to check out their sport.

The team is partnering with Olivet Boys & Girls Club to hold a free wrestling try-it clinic on Nov. 4. The event will give kids ages 6 to 18 with an interest in wrestling a chance to try it out.

“We are so appreciative of coach Cindy Calixto and the Alvernia University women’s wrestling team for offering to partner with us to provide this free clinic to kids who never experienced a wrestling program and would like to try it,” Chris Winters, Olivet president and CEO, said in a release announcing the program. “Wrestling has many educational, physical and mental health benefits for so many kids across Pennsylvania and we are happy to offer this program.”

Calixto said partnering with Olivet is a perfect match.

“Entering our second season of competition this week, we felt this was an opportunity to work with the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, who have a rich history of wrestling in their club, to offer a free beginner level clinic at the Clinton site this weekend,” she said.

The clinic will be held at Olivet’s Clinton Street Club site from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Kids wanting to participate should arrive by 10:45 a.m. and wear athletic apparel and sneakers. Lunch will be provided.
