Daniel Boone graduate Chris Guiliano swam a leg on the United States’ 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay team that finished first in 3:09.28 Saturday in the Paris Olympics. It is Guiliano’s first gold medal.
The team — made up of Jack Alexy, Guiliano, Hunter Armstrong, and Caeleb Dressel — finished 1.07 seconds before the silver medal team, Australia. Guiliano gave the U.S. the lead in the second leg. Italy earned bronze in 3:10.70.
Earlier in the day, the U.S. advanced through the qualifying round in the event.
Guiliano begins his quest for individual medals at 5 a.m. Sunday in the heats of the 200 freestyle. The semifinals are at 2:50 p.m. Sunday with the finals scheduled for 2:40 p.m. on Monday.
Guiliano will be a senior this coming school year at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
