Orwigsburg borough government has several new faces.
At the Nov. 13 borough council meeting, borough officials appointed Rachel Keck to the Planning and Zoning Committee, and Harry Steinbaecher was named to the Sewer Authority Board.
Additionally, a resolution was adopted to appoint Harlee Lomas as borough secretary.
In other business, a resolution to apply for a state grant for repointing of the police station was passed. “Repointing is a process of removing old deteriorating mortar from between bricks and replacing it with new mortar,” Borough Manager William Reppy said. “Over time, the mortar breaks down and can result in the destruction of the brick as well as leaking into the building. It is important that this be done to preserve the building’s integrity.”
In a related effort, multiple pay applications were approved for ongoing work of remodeling the borough police station.
A resolution was passed to have Orwigsburg designated as a broadband community, a program of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. The program works to remove procedural policies and permitting barriers in an effort to increase availability of broadband to more citizens.
A motion was passed authorizing the advertising of an updated ordinance for placement of dumpsters and portable on-demand storage units (POD) on borough roadways.
Vietnam Veterans Post 29 donated a 48-star flag to the borough. The flag will be displayed on the Veterans Memorial Building in the lobby.
Upcoming borough events include a Festival of Lights on Dec. 7 at 4:30 p.m. on the M&T lot and American Xcellence Wrestling on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial. The next council meeting on set for Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
