Orwigsburg council OKs solar farm plan

Orwigsburg Borough Council voted Sept. 11 to approve conditional approval of a land development plan for solar company CSG to build a solar farm as recommended by the planning and zoning committee.

The solar farm has been a topic of discussion for some time, with the proposed location off of Route 443 behind and adjacent to the PPL building, set back from the road.

In the other business, council:

• Accepted the resignation of Councilman Tim Wilhelm effective immediately.

• Approved a motion to approve waivers for CSG Solar as recommended by the planning and zoning committee.

• Approved a motion to accept the updated employee handbook, which includes policies on sexual harassment, time and attendance, smoking, equal employment opportunity and conflict of interest.

Water, sewer, and sanitation activities completed in the borough during August included a state Department of Environmental Protection drinking water report, a DEP discharge monitoring report, evaluating the well pump for the water system and coordination with replacement for water treatment plant filters.

Borough police handled 152 incidents as detailed in the August monthly police report, with 881 regular hours worked, including vehicle and foot patrol.

Upcoming community events and activities include a farmers market on Sept. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the M&T lot and a council meeting being Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
