PA senator visits career and technology center in Bern Township to check out job training efforts

State Sen. Tracy Pennycuick stopped by the Berks Career and Technology Center’s west campus last week to check out the center’s cutting-edge training for students preparing to enter the workforce.

Pennycuick, a Montgomery County Republican who represents parts of Berks County, helped the school last year secure a $150,000 job training grant from the state.

During her visit to the Bern Township campus Thursday, she got a chance to see the impact of that funding, including specialized climbing gear used in the center’s electrical occupations program.

That equipment introduces students to essential lineman skills, including rigging and climbing techniques that are foundational for careers in the utility and energy sectors. By simulating real-world utility work, the program exposes students to the demands of maintaining and repairing electrical systems, preparing them for further training or entry-level opportunities in the industry.

In a statement about Pennycuick’s visit, BCTC officials thanked her for her ongoing support.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sen. Pennycuick for her unwavering support of career and technical education,” said Dr. Michael Stauffer, BCTC executive director. “Her leadership in securing this funding is more than an investment in equipment — it’s an investment in our students, their futures and the industries they will serve.”
