In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October 2024, the Penn State Berks information sciences and technology department will join forces to host events to increase awareness about cybersecurity issues and best practices. These events are free, and each event is for a different audience, including Penn State Berks students, faculty, and staff; K-12 students and educators; and the community. All events are free and preregistration is required for some of the events.
Cybersecurity Career Pathways Panel
Monday, Oct. 14, 12:15-1:15 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, Room 121
This event is for Penn State Berks students, faculty, and staff; and K-12 school counselors and administrators.
Penn State Berks information sciences and technology alumni will discuss their background and experience in cybersecurity careers. Panelists include:
- Darren Davis, senior strategic solutions consultant, Google Cloud Security
- Trevor Houck ’13, senior manager, OT/SecOps, Accenture Security
- Nandini Patel ’23, systems and business integrations consultant, Guidehouse
- Gareth Yoder ’14 and ’17 (Great Valley), cash program technical lead, Vanguard
Cyber Lions visit Centro Hispano Daniel Torres
Thursday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m., Centro Hispano Daniel Torres in Reading
This event is for the clients of Centro Hispano.
Cyber Lions, a Penn State Berks student organization dedicated to raising awareness of cyber crimes in the local community, will give a presentation to educate seniors about cybersecurity scams and teach them how to secure their devices. After the presentation, they will answer questions and provide one-on-one assistance.
AI and Cybersecurity Webinar
Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m., Zoom
This event is open to the general public.
Dr. Zuobin Xiong, assistant professor of computer science, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will discuss cybersecurity issues and concerns in the area of Artificial Intelligence.
UBNetDef Lockdown Competition
Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, Room 206
This event is for Penn State Berks students.
The Penn State Berks Technology Club will participate in Lockdown: the online remote cybersecurity competition hosted by the University at Buffalo Network Defense.
