Grading the Penn State football team on its 40-36 win over Rutgers on Saturday night at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey:
Quarterbacks
A: Ethan Grunkemeyer finished the regular season strongly, completing 17 of 21 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown without a turnover.
Running backs
A: Kaytron Allen rushed for a career-high 226 yards and one TD and Nick Singleton accounted for 183 all-purpose yards and two TDs in what could be their final Penn State game.
Receivers
A: Tight end Andrew Rappleyea set career highs in catches (4) and yards (75) and made the critical fourth-down reception that sealed the win.
Offensive linemen
A: It’s hard to find fault when the Lions rushed for 300 yards, averaged 9.1 yards a carry and totaled a season-high 509 yards.
Defensive linemen
D: Rutgers entered the game ranked 89th nationally in rushing and ran through the Lions for 195 yards and two TDs, averaging 4.6 yards a carry.
Linebackers
B: Amare Campbell made a game-high 14 tackles and returned a fumble for the go-ahead TD. Dominic DeLuca had six stops, including a sack.
Defensive backs
D: A.J. Harris had a rough game, especially against KJ Duff. The backs allowed Athan Kaliakmanis to shred them for 338 yards and three TDs.
Special teams
A: Ryan Barker made two field goals to improve to 15-for-16 for the season; Gabe Nwosu was solid punting and kicking off; the return game was productive; and the Lions stopped a fake field goal.
Coaches
B: The offense and special teams were very good, the defense not so much even though it made two huge plays in the final eight minutes.
