Pennsylvania state football rankings: Changes at the top in Class 4A

Wyomissing’s 34-24 win over Twin Valley last Friday garnered statewide attention.

The victory over the previously top-ranked team in the state in the Class 4A football rankings vaulted the Spartans to the second spot, with the Raiders dropping eight spots to ninth.

Twin Valley (7-1, 4-1) takes on another LL Section 4 and state Class 4A toughie this Friday in Lampeter-Strasburg (8-0, 5-0). The Pioneers are ranked fifth in the state, up two spots from last week.

Aliquippa (6-1) of District 7 moved up from second to the top spot in Class 4A.

In the win against Twin Valley, sophomore running back Justice Hardy gained 196 yards rushing on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Spartans. He also caught two passes for 101 yards.

Wyomissing plays at Octorara (4-4, 2-3) this Friday before finishing the regular season against Lampeter-Strasburg.

Wilson jumped into the Top 10 in Class 6A, sitting at tenth in the rankings.

The Bulldgos (7-1) will be a big favorite this weekend against McCaskey, and a win sets up a regular-season showdown with Manheim Township for the Section 1 title.

Manheim Township (8-0) is ranked sixth in 6A in the state and plays Penn Manor (1-6) this weekend.

Exeter remained a team to watch in Class 5A.

At 8-0 overall and 4-0 in Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2, Exeter will get its toughest test to date this Friday when the Eagles play Conestoga Valley, also 8-0, 4-0 in LL Section 2.

The winner of that game will have sole possession of first place in LL Section 2 and both teams will be favored in their regular season finale – Exeter plays Elizabethtown and Conestoga Valley finishes with Muhlenberg.
