Conrad Weiser is playing its best soccer of the year at the perfect time.
The Scouts, who have lost just one match this season, shut out their first two opponents in the PIAA Class 3A soccer tournament and are now two wins away from a state title.
But before gold medals can be draped around anyone’s neck, the Scouts have to take care of business on Tuesday in a semifinal match against District 7 champion Moon Area at 6 p.m. at Bald Eagle High School in Bellefonte.
Conrad Weiser (24-1-1) has outscored its opponents 20-2 between the District 3 and PIAA tournaments.
After losing to Muhlenberg 3-2 in the BCIAA semifinals, the Scouts have been on a tear.
They have shut out four opponents and allowed just one goal in lopsided wins in the district tournament.
Their stingy defense continues in the state tournament, blanking District 7 third-place finisher Mars 4-0 in the first round and District 7 runner-up Franklin Regional 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
In order to get to the PIAA championship match, the Scouts will have to hit the trifecta with District 7 teams – Moon Area won the District 7 title, beating Franklin Regional 3-1.
In the Scouts’ win over Franklin Regional, Abu Barrie scored two goals and was assisted on them by Silas Miller and Gavin Rapp.
The trio, along with Armaan Malik, have been the backbone of the Scouts’ offense all season.
Goalie Tyler Yonavick made three saves on Saturday for his second clean sheet in the state tourney.
Moon Area (24-0) needed overtime in the quarterfinals to beat District 8 champion Allerdice.
Luis Silva scored on a header in the extra session, off a precise cross from Zech Balbach, for the game-winner.
The other semifinal Tuesday night has District 1 champion Radnor against District 2 champion Dallas at 6 p.m. at Whitehall High School.
The championship match is Friday at 10 a.m. at Eagle View High School in Mechanicsburg.
