PIAA Class 6A boys basketball: Wilson rally falls short in second round game

Wilson outscored Eric McDowell 25-17 in the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs’ rally fall short in a 50-46 loss in the second round of the PIAA Class 6A boys basketball tournament on Wednesday night.

Wilson trailed 33-21 with eight minutes when the Bulldogs staged a comeback.

In the fourth quarter, Tommy McFadden made all nine of his free throw attempts, and Correll Akings and Cam Zullinger each hit two 3-pointers, but McDowell 9 of 11 free throws to fend off the Bulldogs in a game played at Pitt-Johnson University.

McDowell advances to play Upper St. Clair, a 50-38 winner over Gov. Mifflin on Wednesday night at Altoona High School, in the quarterfinals.
