The Class 3A wrestlers from Berks who qualified for the PIAA Wrestling Tournament out of the South Central Regional know who they will face when the tournament opens Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey.
The South Central Regional is a self-contained regional, encompassing just District 3 in Class 3A.
Wilson junior McKaden Speece, the South Central champion at 145 pounds, will face the winner of a preliminary bout.
In the first round, Speece (40-4) will get the winner of senior Danny Metzler of Pennridge, fourth in the Southeast Regional, and Dieruff junior Kiovanny Hamlin, fifth in the Northeast Regional.
At 114, Wilson junior Abramm Schaffer (38-8) will wrestle Whitehall junior Willmont Kai in the first round. Schaffer was third in the South Central Region and Kai was second in the Northeast Regional.
At 189 pounds, Wilson senior Blaise Eidle (41-6) will wrestle Kiski Area senior Mark Gray in the first round. Eidel was second in the South Central Regional and Gray was third in the West Regional.
At 215, Wilson sophomore Ethan Brownback (27-12) will wrestle in the preliminary round, facing Canon-McMillan sophomore Brayden Collins. Brownback was fourth in the South Central Regional and Collins was fifth in the West Regional. The winner faces Northeast Regional champion Brody Rebuck, a junior from Shikellamy, in the first round.
Also at 215, Exeter sophomore Kevin Oswalt (43-8) will wrestle Ringgold senior Jake Conroy in the preliminary round. Oswalt was fifth in the South Central Regional and Conroy was fourth in the West Regional. The winner faces Southeast Regional champ Walker Murray, a senior from Pennsbury.
Brownback defeated Oswalt 4-2 in the consolation semifinals at regionals.
At 285, Conrad Weiser senior Kaleb Britting (37-8), second in the South Central Regional, faces Jeff Gessner of Council Rock South in the first round. Gessner was third in the Southeast Regional.
