Reading Area Community College Celebrates 50 Years of Nurse Training Excellence

From Reading Area Community College

Last week, Reading Area Community College (RACC) celebrated the 50th anniversary of its nursing program with a luncheon at the Schmidt Training and Technology Center, followed by a ceremony at the Miller Center for the Arts.

Alumni speakers Priscilla (Moser) Heffelfinger, Trisha Lasher, Wilfri Pena, and Rebecca Ortyl shared their personal experiences while in the program with the crowd of almost 300 in attendance.

The Neag Foundation, which donated the Carole Neag Nursing Center, spoke about the program’s impact on the healthcare community.

“Our graduates are the backbone of the healthcare workforce in Berks County and surrounding communities. They are the nurses who provide comfort at the bedside, the professionals who support our hospitals and long-term care facilities, and the trusted caregivers who make healthcare accessible and compassionate for families every day,” said RACC President Dr. Susan Looney.

RACC Dean of Health Professions, Dr. Stacia Visgarda, added, “We also pay tribute to our dedicated faculty and staff, past and present, whose commitment to student success has shaped every student who has entered our doors. Their impact, combined with the perseverance of our students, is reflected in the recognition we proudly share: RegisteredNursing.org ranked RACC’s Nursing Program number two in Pennsylvania among 72 programs evaluated.”

RACC offers two-year degrees in a number of areas, including respiratory tech, lab tech, and registered nursing. To learn more about the nursing program at RACC, call 610-607-6224 or email admissions@racc.edu.
