From Reading and Berks County, Pennsylvania’s Americana Region

Reading and Berks County, Pennsylvania’s Americana Region, in partnership with Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, will celebrate Birdability Week, Oct. 20-26, with a special event at the sanctuary on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Birdability is the national organization behind Birdability Week. It is dedicated to making birding and the outdoors welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible for everyone, especially people with disabilities such as low vision, hearing loss, neurodivergence, or mobility challenges.
Birdability Week is a national celebration held during the third week of October. It highlights the birding community’s efforts to make birdwatching and outdoor spaces more welcoming for everyone — especially individuals with disabilities. The week raises awareness, shares resources, and encourages participation from birders of all abilities.
As a proud sponsor of the week, Pennsylvania’s Americana Region is excited to spotlight Hawk Mountain Sanctuary’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Through Birdability’s national outreach, the visitors bureau aims to share the sanctuary’s welcoming features and outstanding Birdability Day programming. On Saturday, Oct. 25, visitors with special needs can enjoy a variety of inclusive experiences, including Raptors Close Up, Stationary Birding, Accessible Hawk Watch, and Raptor Adaptation Station.

This event is part of a nationwide effort to promote accessibility in outdoor recreation, ensuring that birding is truly for everybody.
