Relay for Life cancer fundraiser coming to Schuylkill Haven

The 30th annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Schuylkill County will be held June 14 at Bubeck Park in Schuylkill Haven, celebrating cancer survivors and remembering those lost to the disease.

“Relay For Life is more than just a walk. It is a volunteer-led movement that unites communities to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer and raise funds to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families,” event co-chair Trysha Nettles said. “2025 marks 40 years nationwide of Relay For Life, and we are excited to continue this tradition to help advocate and find a cure.

“So many of us have been personally affected by cancer, whether as a survivor, a caregiver, or having lost someone close to us. Relay For Life is a way for us to honor those who have fought and continue to fight, by helping to put an end to cancer forever.”

This year’s event begins at noon with an opening ceremony. The Luminaria Ceremony takes place at dusk. Veterans and active service members are invited to attend a special flag retirement ceremony in the afternoon

Cancer survivors are welcome to register for a special program at no charge. It includes light refreshments and gift bags, as well as a special speaker.

Local band P 71 is scheduled to perform at 2 p.m. and Dance Xplosion Gymnastics group will take the stage at 6.

Field games will be set up with activities for children and adults alike. There will be food trucks as well as a concession stand and various vendors set up throughout the park

Since 1985, Relay For Life has raised nearly $7 billion nationwide to help save lives from cancer. In 2024 the Schuylkill County event raised more than $40,000. This year’s goal is $50,000.
