Lace up your running shoes and register for Reading Hospital Road Run, which will be hosted by The Friends of Reading Hospital, on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This year, event proceeds will directly benefit critical care initiatives at Reading Hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which offers the most advanced newborn care in Berks County.
This family-friendly race day will bring the community together to support our tiniest and most vulnerable patients – newborns in critical care. The funds raised will help to provide life-saving equipment and advanced medical care for premature and critically ill infants.
“We are not just running for fitness,” Charles F. Barbera, MD, President and CEO of Reading Hospital, said. “We are running to give every child a fighting chance. Whether you are a seasoned runner or just looking to join the Fun Run with your family, every step will bring hope to our NICU families.”
Reading Hospital Road Run will have something for everyone, from seasoned runners to those just looking to go on a walk with family and friends. The event will feature a 5K (3.1 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles), and Fun Run (approximately one mile).
Attendees are also encouraged to visit the “Fun Zone,” which will have food trucks, hospital resource tables, and family-friendly activities including:
- Hair tinsel
- Face painting
- Glitter art
- Rock painting
- TowerDIRECT Teddy Bear Clinic
“We extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers who help bring this event to life every year,” Katherine Thornton, president of the Reading Hospital Foundation, said. “Your dedication and spirit are the foundation of what’s sure to be an incredible event.”
