A Schuylkill County man was killed in a head-on crash late Thursday afternoon on Route 183 in Penn Township, state police said.
Seamus Loughran, 65, of Pottsville, was driving south approaching Old State Road about 5:20 p.m. when an oncoming vehicle suddenly crossed the double-yellow line into his lane, investigators said. The vehicles collided nearly head-on.
Loughran was pronounced dead at the scene by Berks County Deputy Coroner Joel Bonilla.
In a news release, troopers provided no information about the other driver nor a description of the vehicles involved in the crash.
The state police Troop L crash investigation and forensic services units responded to assist in the investigation, which is ongoing.
The crash closed Route 183 between both intersections with Old State Road for 3.5 hours.
