Schuylkill Haven Borough Council members received the audit report for 2023 at their Sept. 4 meeting. Jones & Company shared findings that were good for the borough with no noted concerns.
In other business, the new borough-wide Wi-Fi service, which has been in the process of installation over the past year, is nearing completion. Plans to market the service will be coming. When complete, the service, called WeLink, will broadcast to 4 square miles around the borough with three levels of speed.
The county cleanup in Schuylkill Haven will happen at the St. Charles compost site Thursday, Sept. 12, through Satirday, Sept. 14. Hours on Thursday and Friday will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Schuylkill County, in cooperation with other municipalities and area businesses, sponsors the event to provide a drop-off location for scrap tires, appliances and bulky items to have a drop-off location for the unwanted items. The program also serves as an outlet for municipalities that do not have tire and appliance collection programs. No electronics will be accepted this year.
Only automobile, light truck, and motorcycle/RV tires are accepted. The costd at $2 per tire with a limit of 20 per load and no more than two loads per customer.
Appliances, including freon-bearing air conditioners, refrigerators, and dehumidifiers will be taken off people’s hands for $10 each. There is no charge for non-freon bearing appliances and scrap metal.
Bulky items such as mattresses, box springs, carpet, doors and windows are $10 each. Sofas and loveseats are taken for $5 per cushion.
Proof of residence must be provided. No household hazardous waste like paints and cleaners will be allowed.
Questions concerning disposal of such items can be directed to the Schuylkill County Office of Solid Waste & Resource Management at 570-628-1220. The program is funded by the Schuylkill County Board of Commissioners and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The borough Halloween parade will be held Oct. 29 and Trick-or-Treat on Oct. 31.
Borough Day will be held Sept. 28, and a Fall Fest/Pumpkin Patch is scheduled for the Island on Oct. 20.
