South Schuylkill Police Reports, March 10, 2022

The following information comes from police reports and court records.

Theft by deception: On Feb. 23, an Orwigsburg man reported to state police that he received a check in the mail for $1,940. It was accompanied by a letter instructing him to deposit the check, keep $400 commission and purchase $1,500 worth of gift cards. He was then instructed to share information on the gift cards. The man did as instructed and was later informed by his bank that the check was fraudulent and he is now responsible for the funds utilized.

Crash: On Feb. 22 at about 6:20 a.m. state police responded to an accident on Peach Mountain Road south of Wade Road in Norwegian Township. Victor Ayala-Toro, 37, Pottsville, was speeding and lost control of his car while negotiating a left turn. The Honda traveled off the road for about 100 feet and struck an embankment. Ayala-Toro was not injured. The car was towed.
