State and local investments in environmental conservation are transforming communities — and empowering the next generation of green leaders. The Student Conservation Association (SCA) invites the public to a day of celebration and hands-on action on Wednesday, April 23, as it recognizes the achievements of the Reading Conservation and PA Outdoor Corps teams, supported by funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the City of Reading.

This event will showcase the tangible results of these public investments — from restored green spaces to emerging career pathways in conservation. Attendees will experience firsthand how funding for programs like the PA Outdoor Corps is creating job training opportunities, improving public lands, and fostering environmental stewardship across Pennsylvania.

This event will be held on Wednesday, April 23. From 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., join Corps members and Berks Nature staff in revitalizing the Buttonwood Garden, 137 W. Buttonwood St., Reading.

Then, from noon to 1:30 p.m., as part of the Lunch & Learn Program at Berks Nature, 575 Saint Bernardine St., Reading, hear how public investment is supporting conservation jobs and building sustainable futures.

Featured speakers:

Finally, from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Corps teams return to Buttonwood Garden to complete the day’s improvements.
