Wilson boys bowling won all three of its matches against Hamburg to secure its third straight BCIAA team championship, while the Gov. Mifflin girls defeated Exeter to win the girls title Thursday at Hiester Lanes.
The Bulldogs defeated the Hawks 3,110-2,828. The Mustangs, second a year ago, won 2-of-3 matches against the Eagles and won 2,641-2,447.
“There’s no words for it,” Wilson coach Ryan Wyandt said. “Especially since it’s a threepeat for us. Third straight county title and it’s my third year as head coach. No words. It’s astonishing. All the credit goes to the boys. They stayed together all season and got it done. At the end of the day I’m just here to guide them.”
Wilson won by the three games 1,091-931, 988-978 and 1,031-919.
“We had one of our best days of the year yesterday (Wednesday) in the semifinals,” Wilson junior Tyler Wentzel said pf the 2,301-2,010 win over Exeter. “He (Wyandt) told us to stay as a team like we were yesterday. It feels great. The feeling never gets old.”
Wentzel led the Bulldogs with a 647 series. Jack Rymar had a 627, James Nolan a 622, Harrison Turner a 621 and John Giglio a 593. Aston Haag led the Hawks with a 607 series.
With a third straight championship hanging in the balance, along with an undefeated season as Wilson went 39-0 in the regular season, there was a lot of pressure on the Bulldogs.
“He (Wyandt) just told us to stay consistent,” Turner said. “Stay slow, stay on the ball and mentally focus up.”
“Just stay focused like we always do,” Wyandt said. “You can only control what you can physically do so stay within yourself. Take every shot one at a time.”
On the girls side, there were much similar discussions for the Mustangs going into the championship match.
“Just keep doing what we did all year,” Mifflin coach Kari Addis said. “We didn’t win last year and that kind of stung a little bit after the run we had. Feels good to be back on top.”
Mifflin, which lost to Daniel Boone in last year’s final, won the first two games Thursday 967-734 and 819-817 before losing the finale 896-855.
The effort in the first two matches were too much for Exeter to overcome. The title is Mifflin’s second in the last three years.
“I was pretty confident in us,” said Mifflin sophomore Valleri Addis, Kari’s daughter. “We’ve done good here all year. It feels pretty good (to win). We got second last year in my freshman year. So to be able to lead the team to win this year, it felt really good.”
Valleri Addis led the Mustangs with a 640 series. Lily Watts rolled a 567 and Alisha Hess a 554. Kayla Kulp led the Eagles with a 576 series.
