Wilson senior quarterback Madyx Gruber was voted the back of the year and shared the co-outstanding back of the year award with Manheim Township running back Declan Clancy in a vote of Lancaster-Lebanon League football coaches.
Gruber guided the Bulldogs to the Section 1 title with a 6-0 record and to the District 3 Class 6A finals, where they lost to Harrisburg 42-14.
Wilson finished the season 11-2 and placed five other players on the LL Section 1 first team.
Junior running back Correll Akings, sophomore tight end Mike Glover and senior guard Derek Reiniger were picked on offense, and Gruber (back), junior end Rahmel Gaston, and senior linebacker Christo Hunsicker were selected on defense.
Gruber completed 147 of 228 passes for 2,018 yards with 24 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also rushed for 702 yards on 173 carries and scored 9 touchdowns.
As a defensive back, he was part of a stingy defense that allowed just 197 points in 13 games.
Akings rushed for 1,078 yards on 183 carries and scored 13 touchdowns.
Glover caught 40 passes for 670 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Wilson coach Doug Dahms was selected as the coach of the year.
Reading High senior Gabriel Laws was voted the linebacker of the year and was joined on the first team defense by senior defensive back Xavier Beatty. The Red Knights’ senior tackle Keyshawn Efese was picked on the first team offense.
