11,000-square-foot day care-preschool gets final OK from Spring Twp.

The Spring Township supervisors on Monday unanimously voted to allow the construction of a day care-preschool facility at 3 Meridian Blvd.

The Learning Experience Academy of Early Education will break ground in June for the
construction of a two-story, 11,000-square-foot building that will accommodate children ranging in age from infancy through kindergarten.

McCarthy Engineering of Wyomissing is doing the design work for the project.

According to Jim Moll, township director of planning and engineering services, the
site was previously designated as office space and plans had been approved to build a bank branch there.

The center will have 50 spaces to accommodate staff and parent parking.

According to its LinkedIn page, The Learning Experience is the fastest growing day
care/preschool in the country, with more than 25,000 children enrolled.

It employs a specialized approach to the education of young children and claims that nine in 10 children who attend its program are able to read by the time they enter kindergarten. It utilizes enrichment programs such as philanthropy, yoga, music, foreign language and etiquette, according to the company.

The Learning Experience has more than 300 company-owned and franchised centers
operating or under development in 22 states, according to LinkedIn. Pennsylvania locations include Royersford, Downingtown, West Chester and Macungie.

In other business, the supervisors recommended that the township zoning board not
approve a request for an auto body repair shop to be established at 2125 Portland Ave. at the site of the former Frank Ferrara and Son Inc. construction company.

Moll said the property was sold at sheriff’s sale in 2018 and the owner, who was not
named, requested permission for a change to zoning that would permit the repair shop.

Supervisors were concerned that noise, fumes and odors from a repair shop would be disruptive to residents in the area. The township planning commission had also recommended that the zoning board deny the request.

Supervisor Michael S. Wertz did not attend the meeting, which was held both in person
and on Zoom.
