2 alarm fire rips through row homes in Reading

A two-alarm fire damaged row homes and injured one firefighter in Reading Thursday evening, according to emergency reports.

Three homes in the 1300 block of Perkiomen Avenue were affected by the fire, with initial calls coming in at 6:18 p.m., according to emergency reports.

Fire was reported on all floors of the building where the fire originated, with heavy flames spreading to two structures.

Crews reported finding melted electrical meters and exposed wires in one of the buildings.

Hoarding conditions complicated operations in the main fire building, reports said.

Emergency crews shut off power to three affected homes remotely, reports said.

Crews opened the roofs of the buildings and ran seven lines to contain the blaze.

Firefighters from several stations, including Mount Penn and Spring Township, assisted with the fire.

The fire was reported under control shortly after 7 p.m., with extensive operations to contain the smoldering remains continuing.

One firefighter was transported to Reading Hospital for non-life threatening treatment, according to reports.
