From Wyomissing Public Library
The Wyomissing Public Library will offer a bus trip to the 25th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Sept. 6. The festival, which was started by former First Lady (and former librarian) Laura Bush, will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Throughout the one-day event, attendees will have the opportunity to hear conversations with more than 90 authors whose literary genres range from fiction to nonfiction, picture book to biography, poetry to young adult, and more.
This year’s author lineup includes the following headliners:
- Justice Amy Coney Barrett (General Nonfiction)
- Ron Chernow (Biography)
- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Fiction)
- John Green (Non-Fiction)
- Joy Harjo (Poetry)
- Mac Barnett (Middle Grade), the current National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature
- Jill Lepore (History)
- Yuval Levin (History)
- R. L. Stine (Middle Grade)
- Scott Turow (Fiction)
In addition to the vast array of author conversations, the festival offers a wide range of family-friendly activities, workshops, and interactive programs for attendees of all ages that showcase the Library’s rich resources. These include storytelling at the Story District; literary activities to spark a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at the STEM District; hands-on learning opportunities at the Workshop Space; hearing from experts about the hidden gems, historic treasures, and innovative work happening at the nation’s Library; and taking a literary trip around the country by visiting the Roadmap to Reading, featuring reading options from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Marianas.
The round-trip bus will leave Wyomissing at 6:30 a.m. to arrive at the festival around 9:45 a.m. It will leave the festival at 5:30 p.m. and arrive back in Wyomissing at around 9 p.m. The bus will leave from the Wyomissing Pool, where attendees may park for free for the day. The cost of the bus is $75 per person, or $65 for Wyomissing Library Association members. The deadline to register is Monday, Aug. 25. Registration may be done online at www.wyopublib.org, or in-person at the library, by check made payable to the Wyomissing Public Library, or by cash or credit card. Meals and snacks are on your own.
