The sixth annual Performance Volvo Pro Tennis Challenge will take place on Thursday, Aug. 14, and Friday, Aug. 15, at the Emkey Tennis Garden in Wyomissing, PA, with world-class professional tennis coming to Berks County yet again in 2025. This year, the event is headlined by three top 200 players, including defending event champion and world #149 Jan Choinski, world #189 Benjamin Hassan, world #198 Alexis Galarneau, and New Zealand Davis Cup player KP Pannu. The final two players will be announced at a later date.
Play begins on Thursday, Aug. 14, with round robin matches at 9:30 a.m. all day through the night session starting at 7:30 p.m. Play continues on Friday, Aug. 15, with a special exhibition match with players to be announced, followed by the men’s championship at 1 p.m.
The event, presented by the Berks County Tennis Association, will benefit the IM ABLE Foundation starting in 2025 with their mission to remove obstacles that prevent people with challenges from participating in physical activities and programs. They aim to empower individuals with disabilities to be active and enjoy the benefits of physical fitness. This includes providing grants for adaptive equipment and offering inclusive fitness programs.
Prize money for the event is $9,000. This is the sixth year of the event, with past champions being Denis Kudla (2020), Makund Saisikumar (2021), Sumit Nagal (2022), Fillip Misolic (2024), and Jan Choinski (2025). Tickets are available starting on Wednesday, July 23, at www.imablefoundation.org.
On Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at Hampden Park, the ATP Pros from the event will conduct a one-hour junior clinic for local junior tennis players ages 12 to 18. RSVP for the junior clinic is available by emailing berkscountytennis@gmail.com or calling 610-451-2401. Spots in the junior clinic are $40/player with proceeds of the clinic benefiting the IM ABLE Foundation.
“The BCTA is excited to yet again partner with the Emkey Family to bring world-class tennis to Berks County with six ATP Professional Tennis Players, which will be playing in the US Open. We are thrilled to have IM ABLE Foundation as the event beneficiary starting in 2025, as well as Performance Volvo as our new title sponsor. Tennis is a sport that brings people together and unites us in more ways than one, and we are excited to give our area the opportunity to see world-class tennis up close right here in Berks County,” said Event Director and USTA Middle States President Ryan Knarr.
