Twenty-one Berks wrestlers, including two District 3 champions, will complete in the Southeast Regional Class 2A Wrestling Championships this weekend at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.
Hamburg senior Daniel Brady won the district title last weekend at 145 pounds and Berks Catholic senior Carmine Lenzi won at 172 pounds.
The top five wrestlers in each weight class advance to the PIAA Championships March 6-8 at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Brady (37-4) beat Cole Byler of Pequea Valley 1-0 for the district crown. He will open the regionals Friday in the first round against Brady Dillon of Littlestown (23-10), who was sixth in District 3.
Lenzi (39-6) pinned Teegan Carroll of Halifax in 13 seconds for his district crown. He will open the regionals against Ryan Lengal of Bishop McDevitt (23-18), who was fifth in District 3.
Three Berks wrestlers finished second in the District 3 2A tournament: Berks Catholic’s Trapp Walsh (107) and Layden Acevedo (160), and Schuylkill Valley’s Ian Vitalo (152).
Walsh (25-11) opens the tournament against Delone Catholic’s Channing Hickok (31-11).
Acevedo (39-7) takes on Mahanoy Area’s Rory Dixon in the first round, and Vitalo (33-2) goes against Palmerton’s Derek King (34-6).
