3,600 without power in Berks after heavy thunderstorms roll through region

About 3,600 customers in Berks County were without power this morning as a result of heavy thunderstorms that passed through the region Tuesday evening.

Met-Ed reported a total of about 2,600 customers were without power as of 8:30.

PPL Electric Utilities, whose service area includes southwestern Berks, reported about 940 outages, all but about 50 in Wyomissing, as of 8:30.

Thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and torrential downpours brought down tree limbs on wires throughout much of the county, accounting for the bulk of the outages.

According to Met-Ed parent FirstEnergy Corp.’s website, some of the biggest outages were as follows:

• Hereford Township, 667

• Washington Township, 110

• Amity Township, 138

• Reading, 740

• Brecknock Township, 284

• Pike Township, 110

• Shillington, 32

• Ruscombmanor Township, 45

• Rockland Township, 45

• Bern Township, 37

• Alsace Township, 43
