The King Frost Parade returns to downtown Hamburg for its 60th year.
Traditionally held the last Saturday of October, the parade is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. The rain date is the following Saturday on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
“The King Frost Parade is a fall-themed parade. We have floats with fall, Halloween, winter and Christmas themes,” parade co-chairs Derek Leibensperger and Colleen Witman said in a statement.
“High school and community bands showcase their talents. Local organizations, businesses, and individuals come together with colorful floats and walking groups. There is also an abundance of candy that many of the entries hand out as they travel the parade route.”
The goal of the parade is to bring people together and enjoy the evening.
“It is meant to welcome the cooler weather and serves as a homecoming for people that may have moved away from the Hamburg area,” said the co-chairs.

The King Frost Parade in its current form began in 1964, when the Hamburg Jaycees revived a decades old pre-Halloween celebration dating to 1910.
The Hamburg Jaycees staged the parade until 2022, but that group folded in 2023 and last year the nonprofit King Frost Parade Inc. took charge.
“This year’s parade was possible due to the generous donations from local businesses and individuals, the many volunteers who give their time, and all the people, businesses, and organizations who participate in the parade,” stated the parade co-chairs.
More than 100 entries have registered. Entries will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 25 at 10 p.m.
“This year there will be five parade divisions and an increase in high school marching bands that are participating,” stated the co-chairs.

Organizers hope the King Frost Parade provides a night of fun and entertainment.
“Hopefully people coming from out of town are able to see our beautiful, small town and visit the small businesses in town,” said the co-chairs.
Positioning in the tentative parade line up, subject to change until the night before the parade, was determined the weekend of Oct. 19 for those registered before that date.
Participants are given rules and guidelines on the registration form. All entries are required to be decorated in some way, such as a fall, winter or Halloween theme.
Spectators are asked to not put chairs out until Friday, Oct 25, at 6 p.m.
During the parade, spectators are asked to stay on the curb as many of the floats and marching bands go curb to curb, not throw any objects at parade participants, to follow all no parking signs, not block driveways, respect all barricades, and to stay off of private property.
“We’re always open to having more volunteers to help the night of the parade.”
