Children with their parents and grandparents — numbering more than 700 in all — converged on City Park on Saturday for an Easter egg hunt and other festivities hosted by One Luv Outreach, a Christian ministry.
Music blared from two large speakers near the top of the hill overlooking North 11th Street while One Luv leader Tony Bilotta preached to the gathering as volunteers hid plastic eggs filled with candy on the lower part of the park.
Bilotta implored his audience that no matter what their difficulties are, if they follow Jesus’ teachings, they have nothing to worry about.
“This is so simple: walk in the light, love people,” he said. “Guess what, love is way more powerful than hate. Light is more powerful than darkness.”

Attendees were given Easter candy when they entered and a ticket for a free Easter basket. Throughout the event stuffed animals were given away. Pony rides and a bounce house were among the activities.
The big white bunny was seen walking around on two feet in City Park.
While some attendees may have come only for the giveaways and entertainment, a number of people swayed with their arms in the air at Bilotta’s prompting in praise of the central figure in Easter: Jesus, not the bunny.

Sherry Wright of Mohnton, who attended with her two oldest children and her six grandchildren, enjoyed the blend of religious and secular activities.
“This is why we celebrate Easter,” she said.
There was also the 20th annual Kutztown Easter egg hunt at Kutztown Park. The Optimist Club of Kutztown has hosted egg hunts for children of all ages, as well as adults.
