Alvernia’s Avery Walker voted MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year in men’s basketball

Alvernia senior Avery Walker was voted the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year by the conference coaches, it was announced Wednesday.

Walker, a senior from Donegal High School, also was named Defensive Player of the Year in the 2019-20 season.

Walker averaged 10.5 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Golden Wolves (18-7), led them with 34 blocked shots and was second with 34 steals.

Alvernia seniors Malik Green and Keon Taylor were selected to the all-conference first team, along with Hood senior Mason Wang, the Player of the Year; Hood senior Evan Wang; and Lebanon Valley junior Collin Jones.

Green averaged 17.4 points and 6.7 rebounds a game for the Wolves, and Taylor averaged 16.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

Albright senior Sidney Brown was voted to the second team after he averaged 15.3 points and 2.2 steals a game.

Eastern’s Dan Pruessner was named Coach of the Year, and Messiah’s Arkese Claiborne was chosen as Rookie of the Year.
