The annual Fleetwood Community Carnival this year saw some high temperatures but concluded on a high note with fireworks, thanks to a new nonprofit organization.
To ensure that there will always be an annual community carnival, the nonprofit organization, Fleetwood Community Carnival, was formed early in 2024.
“It is important to us to host this event as it’s an opportunity to provide rides, entertainment, games, for people of all ages, both from Fleetwood and surrounding municipalities. It’s also a pleasure to see families and children laughing and enjoying the various activities the carnival has to offer,” Doreen O’Neil of Fleetwood Community Carnival said in a statement.
This year’s carnival was held at Fleetwood Community Park from July 16 through July 20.
“The weather tested us early in the week with high temperatures and rain storms on Tuesday and Wednesday, even resulting in the need to close down the carnival early on Wednesday night,” said O’Neil. “Luckily, Thursday, Friday and Saturday resulted in sunny weather and more comfortable temperatures.”
The carnival this year featured homemade food and seafood available at the community concession stand. Nightly cash Bingo was provided by the Fleetwood Fire Company, and the community midway was filled with community organizations that had games of chance and/or information stands. Amusement rides were provided by Tons of Fun Shows.
Nightly entertainment included performances by TJ Bebb, Big Valley Bluegrass, Erich Cawalla and the Uptown Band, The Jess Zimmerman Band, and Sloth Love Chunk. Friday night concluded with a firework display.
“Volunteers from various Fleetwood organizations came together to staff the community concession stand, drink tent, ticket booths and assist with parking cars,” said O’Neil.
Proceeds from the carnival benefit various Fleetwood organizations such as Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Company, Fleetwood Lions Club, Fleetwood Rotary Club, Breakfast Brothers, Fleetwood Public Library, Fleetwood Grange, and Fleetwood Community Theater.
“The Fleetwood Community Carnival organization wants to thank all the volunteers, business sponsors, and the public who supported this annual community event,” said O’Neil. “We are looking forward to 2025 carnival.”
