The Antietam Valley Community Partnership finished its yearlong lineup of events with a family-friendly reception and tree lighting in Carsonia Park.
The annual holiday event in the park, 905 Byram St., Lower Alsace Township, is the organization’s most popular, said Larry O’Boyle, chairman of the board of director.
About 100 people attended the celebration on Dec. 7.
The festivities began with community carol singing in the community center, followed by the tree lighting and a visit from Santa Claus.
“It is truly a community event,” O’Boyle said, thanking the Lower Alsace Township and Mount Penn volunteer fire companies, Antietam School District, Antietam Valley Recreation and Community Center and Antietam Valley Community Partnership for pulling together to make it a success.
He also thanked longtime volunteers and board members Jaime and Zoe Yousaitis, who have chaired the event for several years.
The community partnership was founded in 2011 by a group of community members with the goal of improving the quality of life in the Antietam Valley and surrounding area.
All are welcome to join and events are open to the public.
Events include the twice monthly Farmers and Artists Market, annual cornhole tournament, craft beer and wine social, Trunk or Treat Halloween event and community yard sales and suppers.
Many of the events are held in Carsonia Park, a former amusement park mostly in Exeter Township.
The 27-acre property is owned by the Mount Penn Borough Municipal Authority, which serves about 30,000 households in Mount Penn, St. Lawrence, Lower Alsace and part of Exeter Township.
Much of the park is leased to rec center for a swimming pool, recreation center, playground, basketball courts and ballfields.
