Are Pennsylvanians the ‘loudest talkers’ in U.S.? See where we rank in survey of noisiest states

Fans of Pennsylvanian sports teams have a bit of reputation to the rest of the country as being a bit, shall we say, rambunctious.

So it might come as no surprise to some readers that Pennsylvania has been ranked among some of the “loudest” states in the country.

Preply — an online platform that “[matches] online tutors from across the globe with learners” in order to “empower them to create personalized live language classes with AI-powered tools and content” – conducted and published a study titled “America’s noisiest states: From loud talkers to public peeves.”

And how were these loud talkers found? By a survey Preply sent out to various people across the U.S., which asked questions pertaining to what peeves respondents had; where they think people are the loudest; and what loud activities they themselves are guilty of doing in public.

Pennsylvania ranked 14th overall in terms of loudness. Interestingly — and perhaps ironically — Philadelphia ranked as the sixth “quietest” city in the United States.

“There are various levels of noise based on where you go in public, but Americans views some places as being the loudest,” the study reads. “Americans feel bars and restaurants are filled with the loudest talkers in the country.

“In addition to the dining atmosphere, 1 in 3 Americans say people are too loud in grocery stores. This may come from phone calls on speaker or parents disciplining their children in the check-out line.”

The loudest state was found to be Louisiana and the loudest city, Louisville, Ky.
