Six agencies in Berks County have received a combined $2.2 million in state grant funding through programs focused on improving crime reporting, helping law enforcement upgrade equipment and supporting victims of crime.
The money comes from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency and was awarded to the county, local governments and local nonprofit organizations.
The recipients are listed below.
Federal Byrne Justice Assistance funds
Connections Work will receive $135,773 for reentry coalition coordination.
Federal STOP Violence Against Women grant
SAFE Berks will get $125,000 to support the Berks County STOP Team.
Federal Victims of Crime Act funds
Berks County will get $131,862 for enhancing services to Berks victims.
CASA of Berks County will receive $45,183 for the continuation of child victim advocacy services.
SAFE Berks was awarded $1.1 million for victim services.
Community Justice Project will receive $42,928 for immigration legal services for victims.
MidPenn Legal Services will get $646,342 for providing legal interventions for victims.
State Sen. Judy Schwank said the funding will deliver support and resources to keep Berks residents safe in the places they call home.
“The awards acknowledge the tremendous services these grant recipients are delivering for the people of Berks County,” the Ruscombmanor Township Democrat said in a statement announcing the grants. “I’m grateful to the PCCD for making these investments that will support victims and provide them opportunities to seek the services and assistance they need.”
