Berks baseball tournament: Gov. Mifflin, Berks Catholic will play for the title [updated]

Senior Dennys Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs, including a home run, and Berks Catholic scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Wyomissing 11-6 tonight in the semifinals of the BCIAA baseball playoffs at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

The Saints will play top-seeded and once-beaten Gov. Mifflin in the championship game at 7 p.m. Tuesday Owls Field.

Henry Pflomm pitched the last two innings for the Saints, giving up just one hit, no runs and striking out one in getting the win.

Also for the Saints (15-7), the tournament’s seventh seed, Trey Stricker, Mikey Fidler, Owen Schalk, Victor Mejia and Cole Harter each had an RBI.

Berks Catholic advanced to the semifinals by upsetting second-seeded 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

Sixth-seeded Wyomissing defeated third-seeded Twin Valley 7-5 in the quarterfinals.

Gov. Mifflin 2, Exeter 1

Winning pitcher Ethan Grim allowed just one earned run and four hits in six innings and Bryce Detwiler got the save without allowing a hit as Gov. Mifflin beat Exeter 2-1 in the BCIAA semifinals at Owls Field on Monday night.

The top-seeded Mustangs (21-1) will play Berks Catholic for the title at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Owls Field.

Grim struck out 9 and walked 3 before giving way to Detwiler in the seventh inning.

Exeter pitcher Kamren Martin was also stellar on the mound, holding the Mustangs to just five hits. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up striking out 7, and giving up 5 hits and no earned runs.

Billy Angstadt had 2 hits for the Mustangs, and Detwiler, Branson Adams (1 RBI) and Travis Jenkins each had one hit.

For the Eagles, Jake Hafer (1 RBI), Brenton Feathers, Gavin Barker, Chase Youse and Aiden Rhoades each had hits.
