Berks Catholic put a scare into Lewisburg in the second half before falling 4-3 in a PIAA Class 1A field hockey first-round game Tuesday at Danville.
The Saints (19-6), who finished sixth in District 3, gave up two first-quarter goals and trailed 2-0 at the half against District 4 champ Green Dragons (15-5).
The team’s exchanged goals in a 68-second span in the third quarter. Paisley Lutz scored off an assist from Mallory Buzydlowski for Berks Catholic, while Maddy Moyers scored for Lewisburg to make it 3-1.
Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Berks Catholic’s Alyse Weber scored off a corner to make it 3-2.
Lewisburg responded two minutes later with a goal by Maddie Ikeler to make it 4-2. Weber scored off an assist from Aubreigh Uba with 4:24 left to pull the Saints within 4-3.
Berks Catholic continued to pressure, but could not tie it.
Rachel Forkin made six saves for the Saints.
The Green Dragons will face District 3 runner-up Oley Valley, an 8-0 winner over Dock Mennonite, in a quarterfinal game Saturday, site and time to be announced.
