Christian Cacchione scored the last of his three touchdowns with 4:16 left to help Berks Catholic turn back visiting Pope John Paul II 47-40 Friday night in a non-league high school football game the Saints once led by 27 points.
Berks Catholic led 34-7 in the first half after Jay Jay Jordan returned an interception 62 yards to give the Saints (3-1) a seemingly comfortable lead.
But Pope John Paul (2-2) roared back with a 50-yard touchdown pass late in the first half and three straight TDs in the second half to tie it. Josh Little ran 50 yards for a touchdown with 9:24 left to bring the Golden Panthers all the way back at 34-34.
Berks Catholic regained the lead when Cacchione hauled in a screen pass from Mitchell Gatz and took it 45 yards for a score with 7:34 to go. Little scored again for Pope John Paul II, this time on a 3-yard with 5:53 left, but the extra point was missed and Berks Catholic clung to a 41-40 lead.
Cacchione, who had a 2-yard TD run in the first half, scored on a 6-yard run with 4:16 to play and Berks Catholic was able to hang on.
Berks Catholic also got an 8-yard TD run from Jordan and a 4-yard scoring run from Luke Hughes to help build the big lead in the first half.
