Berks Community Health Center to Celebrate National Health Center Week

National Health Center Week runs from Sunday, Aug. 3, to Saturday, Aug. 9, and celebrates America’s over 1,400 community health centers. Berks Community Health Center (BCHC) will celebrate the week with two free Community Day events.

Community Day at BCHC’s Oakbrook location (1040 Liggett Ave.) is Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 4-6 p.m. Following that, on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., is Community Day at 838 Penn St. Both events are open to all members of the community and will include bounce houses, a dunk tank, and other fun activities for children. There will also be music, refreshments, raffle prizes, as well as representatives and information tables from local government, community, health, and social services organizations.

To support BCHC during this important week, a fundraiser is being held on Friday, Aug. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., at Honeygrow in Wyomissing. Simply enter promo code GIVE135 at checkout, and 20% of your order will be donated back to BCHC.

National Health Center Week raises awareness of community health centers. Community Health centers provide care to over 31.5 million people in the country annually. Berks Community Health Center operates four locations in Berks County: 838 Penn St., 1040 Liggett Ave., 1110 Rockland St., and a mobile unit, Wellness on Wheels. BCHC’s mission is to improve access and health of the community through delivering coordinated and comprehensive care to all residents of Berks County, regardless of their economic status. BCHC served over 20,000 patients last year and is looking forward to opening new locations and serving more community members in the future. BCHC has a sliding fee scale for those community members who are low-income based and accepts all insurances and the uninsured.
