Berks coroner’s office identifies Route 724 fatal crash victims, provides more details

On Friday, Sept. 29, the Berks County coroner’s office identified the motorcyclist and vehicle driver who were killed Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Black Matt Road and West Schuylkill Road (Route 724) in Union Township.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene about 4:40 p.m.

The coroner’s office said a 49-year-old woman, Billie Jean Buckland of Mount Penn, collided with motorcyclist James Patrick McNeill, 29, of Washington Township. McNeill was pronounced dead at 6:01 p.m. while Buckland was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m., both by Deputy Coroner Joel Bonilla.

Both victims received blunt force trauma and internal injuries. Both manners of death were ruled an accident. No autopsy is planned for either victim.

State police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.

Portions of Route 724 and Black Matt Road were closed for several hours Thursday while police investigated.
