Boys cross country
Wyomissing junior David Giles finished 20th at the PIAA Class 2A Cross Country Championships at Hershey. He finished in 16:47, which was the fastest time of any runner from Berks.
Girls cross country
Exeter senior Gabrielle Keith finished 10th at the PIAA Class 3A Cross Country Championships at Hershey. She finished in 18:48, which was the fastest time of any runner from Berks.
Field hockey
Oley Valley junior Izzy Buehler had three goals in the Lynx’s 3-1 win over Susquenita in the District 3 Class 1A final. In the semifinals, she had one goal and assisted on the winning goal in overtime as Oley beat Bishop McDevitt 2-1.
Football
Fleetwood senior Jack Riffle completed 26-of-49 passes for a school-record 419 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions to help the Tigers rally from a 27-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat Shamokin 42-41 in overtime in the Eastern Conference Class 4A championship game.
Boys soccer
Kutztown senior Connor Loeb scored the game-winning goal in penalty kicks to lift the Cougars to a 2-1 victory over Tulpehocken in the District 3 Class 1A final.
Girls soccer
Wyomissing sophomore Dulce Lytle had two goals and one assist in the Spartans’ 3-2 win over Schuylkill Valley in a District 3 Class 2A semifinal before scoring one goal in a 2-1 loss to Trinity in the district final.
Girls tennis
Conrad Weiser senior Emma Perkins earned a silver medal in PIAA Class 2A singles. She fell to defending champ Ilana Rosenthal of Wyoming Seminary 6-1, 6-0 in the final. The PIAA medal was Perkins’ fourth. She won doubles gold as a freshman, and doubles silver as a sophomore and junior.
Girls volleyball
Wilson senior Airyanna Kline had 16 kills and eight blocks to help the Bulldogs rally after losing the first two sets to beat Dallastown 3-2 in the District 3 Class 4A semifinals. She had 20 kills and nine blocks in a 3-2 loss to Hempfield, the top-ranked team in the state, in the championship match.
Boys water polo
Wilson senior Tommy Houck had seven goals and nine assists over three games for the Bulldogs at the Pennsylvania State Water Polo Championships. He had four goals and five assists in a 19-9 win over Muhlenberg, three goals and three assists in a 14-7 semifinal win over Upper Dublin and one assist in a 5-4 loss to North Penn in the final. In addition, he was named state Player of the Year and first-team All-State.
