Berks high school sports honor roll: October 23, 2023

Boys cross country

Wyomissing junior David Giles won the Berks Conference Run in 16:20, defeating Gov. Mifflin’s Zack Zerbe by one second at Kutztown University.

Girls cross country

Gov. Mifflin senior Kaitlyn Highduch won the Berks Conference Run in a meet-record 18:42 at Kutztown University, bettering the mark of 18:47 set by Mifflin’s Tessa Mundell in 2012.

Field hockey

Oley Valley sophomore Julia Wagner had four goals and an assist in three Berks playoff games to help the Lynx win their first county title since 2019. She had three goals in a 7-0 quarterfinal win over Schuylkill Valley, one assist in a 4-0 semifinal win over Twin Valley, and broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in a 3-1 victory over Wilson in the final.

Football

Fleetwood senior Czion Brickle ran for a school-record 309 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries to help the Tigers defeat Solanco 44-41. He also had three two-point conversion runs.

Golf

Wilson senior Kayla Maletto finished sixth at the PIAA Class 3A golf championships, shooting a two-round total of 5-over 149 at Penn State’s Blue Course. She shot an even-par 72 in the final round, playing the back nine in 2-under, including a birdie on No. 18, to earn her first state medal.

Boys soccer

Fleetwood senior Josh Avila had one assist in the Tigers’ 4-1 win over Wilson in a Berks semifinal before scoring a goal in a 2-0 victory over Conrad Weiser in the Berks final.

Girls soccer

Wyomissing sophomore Dulce Lytle scored a goal in the Spartans’ 4-0 win over Exeter in a Berks semifinal before scoring the game-winning goal in double overtime in a 1-0 victory over Fleetwood in the Berks final.

Girls tennis

Berks Catholic juniors Sarah Schnatz and Isabella Logozzo won the District 3 Class 2A doubles championship with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Delone Catholic’s fourth-seeded team of Ella Knox and Baileigh Stetter.

Girls volleyball

Wilson senior Cameryn Niedrowski had 29 assists, eight digs, one kill and one ace in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 win over Berks Catholic in the Berks semifinals.

Boys water polo

Gov. Mifflin senior Jude Enriquez scored 12 goals and had five assists over three games as the Mustangs fell to Wilson 17-9, then defeated Springfield 17-15 in the State Play-In Tournament before falling to Cumberland Valley 20-8. Enriquez had four goals against Wilson, six goals and three assists against Springfield, and two goals and two assists vs. Cumberland Valley.

Girls water polo

Reading High sophomore Helen Ott scored nine goals in three games for the Red Knights. Ott scored five goals in an 8-6 loss against Exeter. In the NIT Tournament, she had three goals in a 12-5 loss to Perkiomen Valley and one in a 6-5 loss to Lower Merion.
