Berks high school sports honor roll: October 30, 2023

Boys cross country

Gov. Mifflin senior Zack Zerbe finished fifth in Class 3A in 16:01.1 with the fastest time of any Berks runner at the District 3 Cross Country Championships.

Girls cross country

Wyomissing senior Addie Cohen finished first in Class 2A in 19:40.9 at District 3 Cross Country Championships.

Field hockey

Oley Valley senior Taylor Vaccaro had two goals and two assists in a 9-0 win over Schuylkill Valley in the first round of the District 3 Class 1A playoffs, then had a goal and an assist in a 6-2 quarterfinal win over Newport.

Football

Fleetwood senior Mason Musitano caught seven passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ 42-0 victory over Daniel Boone.

Boys soccer

Fleetwood senior Josh Avila had two goals and one assist in the Tigers’ 5-1 win over Biglerville in a District 3 Class 2A quarterfinal.

Girls soccer

Hamburg junior goalkeeper Shelby Dougherty recorded 12 saves — including one during penalty kicks — in a 2-1 win over Elco in a District 3 Class 2A quarterfinal, marking the Hawks’ first victory in the district playoffs since 2008.

Girls tennis

Berks Catholic senior Cara Cavorsi won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles in the Saints’ 5-0 win over Westmont Hilltop in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A team tournament.

Girls volleyball

Wilson senior Cameryn Niedrowski had 42 assists, including the 3,000th of her career, in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 win over Cumberland Valley in a District 3 Class 4A quarterfinal. She also had 15 digs and one block against the Eagles. In addition, Niedrowski had two kills, 46 assists and one block in a 3-2 win over Twin Valley in the Berks final, and 30 assists and four blocks in a 3-0 win over Lower Dauphin in the first round of districts.

Girls water polo

Wilson senior Mikayla Arthur had 12 goals and four assists over three games at the Pennsylvania Girls Water Polo Tournament Championships, helping the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish.
