A Bethel Township man drowned Monday afternoon after falling into a backyard fish pond on his property, according to the Berks County coroner’s office.
Donald Klopp, 92, was trying to retrieve a plank from his pond and fell in, Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner Jim Wilson said.
Emergency crews were called to a residence in the 500 block of Airport Road following reports of a man floating face down in water.
The calls were made around 12:30 p.m. by Klopp’s wife, who found him in the pond, Wilson said.
Klopp was pulled from the pond around 12:40 and CPR was administered.
Wilson said Klopp was then transported to the Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:09 p.m.
