Boyertown stayed alive in the Pennsylvania Region 2 Legion Tournament with a 7-5, eight-inning win over North Parkland in an elimination game Sunday at Boyertown’s Bear Stadium.
The Bears had fallen into the loser’s bracket with an opening, 6-5 loss to Quakertown Saturday.
This time, Boyertown survived despite blowing a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the eighth for the Bears, Gavin Slaughter led off with a walk. He advanced to second on an error and to third on a bunt single by Max Kneidinger. After Kneidinger stole second, North Parkland got a strikeout and a groundout. Peyton Moyer’s bunt single drove in the tiebreaking run. Lucas Barndt’s fly to right was dropped for an error, allowing the second run to score.
Moyer, who earned the win, allowed just a single in the bottom of the inning to close it out.
Boyertown scored three in the first, one in the third and one in the sixth to go up 5-0.
North Parkland scored one in the sixth, then four in the seventh to tie it.
The Bears will face Berks champ West Lawn in an elimination game Monday at Bear Stadium at 1:30 p.m. The Owls lost 1-0 to Pennridge Sunday.
Barndt went 2-for-3, Randy Wynings and Kneidinger each 2-for-4 and Moyer 2-for-5 for Boyertown.
