Brandywine Community Library received a $2,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support the library’s summer reading program.
“This grant from DGLF will provide books and rewards for the kids in our community who take part in the summer reading program,” Heather Wicke, director of the Brandywine Community Library, said in a statement. “We hope all the children who take part in our summer reading program discover that reading is fun and become lifelong learners!”
The funds are a part of a record-setting, one-day donation in the Foundation’s history of more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs in the 48 states in which Dollar General operates.
Brandywine Community Library’s summer reading program kicks off with Book Bingo on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
“There are events for everyone — all ages, as the program is for all ages,” said Wicke.
Littles and Preschoolers: Weekly Storytimes, Saturday Storytimes, outdoor storytimes and crafts, and stuffed animal sleepover.
School-age and Teens: tech toy exploration, Monday Night Teen Takeover, book clubs, NERF lock-ins, Pokemon Club and LEGO Building Club.
Families: therapy dog, movies, Stitch & Chat.
Adults: Book clubs, movies, Time for Tech (drop-in assistance), crafts.
All events can be found at www.berkslibraries.org/branch/brandywine/events and on Facebook at Brandywine Community Library.
