Humane Pennsylvania’s Pints for Pups beer festival will be held Sunday, April 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Danielle Ruiz-Murphy Dog Park in Exeter Township.
The fundraiser serves as the kickoff for the 2023 mini Pints for Pups tour. Attendees can get a mini Pints for Pups Pawsport, which can be stamped at each mini Pints location throughout the season. Receive a stamp from at least five tour stops to complete the mission and receive a free ticket to an invitation-only event in 2024..
Ticket holders may sample more than 40 varieties of beer, wine, and liquor, and select full pours from local and regional breweries and wineries including West Reading Tavern, Willow Creek Brewing, Lucky Leprechaun Vineyard & Winery, Pike Café and Wacker Brewing Company. There will be music by Corty Byron and food from Smothered Sensations

Poetry event
Firefly Bookstore, Kutztown, is kicking off National Poetry Month with a reading by Spring Township poet John Yamrus today at 6 p.m. Yamrus, who has published 35 books, including 29 volumes of poetry, will be reading from his recent release, “Twenty Four Poems,” and discussing his career as a working writer, spanning more than 50 years. The reading will be followed by an open mic. Food and drink will be provided, and the event is BYOB. Admission is free.
Latino Health Summit
The Third Annual Latino Health Summit and Adelante Wellness Expo will take place April 7 and 8 at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Reading. It provides an opportunity for continuing education and networking among the medical community as well as activities, demonstrations, health screenings and resources for the general public.
Friday’s program runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a full agenda geared for executives and professionals in health care, social services and public health for engaging professional workshops. This is a ticketed event.
On Saturday the Adelante Wellness Expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is free and open to everyone. It includes wellness workshops, fitness activities, healthy food demos, health screenings, dental assessments and more.

Cover crop workshop
The Berks County Conservation District is holding a cover crop workshop on April 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 91 Frystown Road, Bethel Township. This is a free event, rain or shine. Essay contest
Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, in collaboration with the Friends of Hopewell Furnace, is accepting essay submissions for inclusion in this year’s Independence Day programming at the park. Students in grades 6-12 attending school in the Antietam, Boyertown, Daniel Boone, Exeter, Gov. Mifflin, Oley Valley, Reading, Twin Valley, Wyomissing, Downingtown, Coatesville, Owen J. Roberts, Phoenixville, Pottsgrove, Pottstown and Spring-Ford school districts are encouraged to participate.
Students in grades 9-12 may submit an essay of up to 500 words, and students in grades 6-8 may submit an essay of up to 300 words: What does the phrase “created equal” mean to you? The top three writers from each grade group will receive cash awards and be invited to participate in the park’s July Fourth public program. Submission are due April 30. Saturday, April 8: Spring Stroll Wellness Walk, 9 a.m. at Angora Fruit Farm, Lower Alsace Township. An hourlong stroll. Event is free but registration is recommended.
Tuesday, April 18: Read with a Ranger for Earth Day, 10 a.m. at Bingaman House, Lower Alsace Township. Children ages 3-5 are invited to enjoy a themed story, go for a walk on the trail and complete a craft to become an honorary Junior Ranger. Free but registration required.
Thursday, April 20: Celebrate Earth Day: Pollinator Water Station, 5:30 p.m. at Berks Leisure Area, Spring Township. Create a simple bee watering station and learn why such efforts are beneficial to wildlife. Cost is $5 per project. Registration is required.
Thursday, April 20: Colonial Homeschool Day, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Beidler House, Gibraltar. Outdoor craft demonstrations and house tours. This event is free.
Saturday, April 29: Berks Family Fun Day, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Berks County Heritage Center, Bern Township. Vendors, food trucks, a macaroni & cheese cookoff, pig roast, kids color run and more.
Saturday, April 29: Berks County Heritage Center opening day. Museums will be open Thursdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays, noon to 4 p.m.

Theology with a Twist
Friend, Inc. Executive Director Jim Reece will present “Feeding the Soul When There’s Not Enough to Eat” at Theology with a Twist on Tuesday, April 4, at 7 p.m., upstairs at the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St. The discussion will look at the increase in demand for food support and the causes behind it.
South Asian festival
The South Asian Association of Lancaster has scheduled its Annual Festival of Colors – HOLI /COLOR RUN on April 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Neffsville Park, 209 E. Petersburg Road, Lancaster. This festival heralds the onset of spring.

Benefit for Ukraine
An art show and raffle to benefit the people of Ukraine starts Wednesday and runs through June 30 at the YR Club, 1029 Thrush Road, Wyomissing. A reception with artists and friends is scheduled for April 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The YR Club is opening its dinner menu to non-members for the show. Reservations required, call 610-376-1303.
Proceeds will go toward humanitarian and medical efforts directed by United 24, created by the president of Ukraine. Each artist will contribute wall hangings along with smaller pieces for a fundraising raffle.
Physics lecture
The 10th annual Penn State Berks Losoncy Lecture in Physics and Astronomy will be presented Wednesday by Rosi Reed, associate professor of physics at Lehigh University. The topic is “A Recipe for Quark Soup: Understanding the Primordial Broth at the Beginning of the Universe.” There will be a reception beginning at 4 p.m. in the Freyberger Gallery, and the lecture begins at 4:30 in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
Reed will discuss what we can learn about the structure of the universe from little droplets of matter with the hottest temperature, highest vorticity, and largest magnetic fields created in the laboratory.

Egg hunt fundraiser
Tri-County Chiropractic of Douglassville will host a sunset Easter egg hunt fundraiser to benefit a local family in need. It will take place Friday in Birdsboro Main Park from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. There will be candy, prizes, light refreshments and a visit from the Easter Bunny. The cost is $6 per child. Bring cash or make out a check to Tri-County Chiropractic.
